About

Picture
Greetings.  I run a small photography business in Albuquerque, NM.  I specialize in outdoor, nature, and portrait photography.  My images are inspired by the incredible landscapes and by the amazing people of the American Southwest.  I especially enjoy photographing the rich multicultural heritage of New Mexico, which is a tapestry of Native American, Mexican, and European influences.

Photojournalism.  My first experience with photography began while I was enlisted in the US Army in 1967-1969.  For advanced training, I was sent to Ft. Campbell, KY, to train as a combat photographer.  As fate would have it, I never saw combat.  Instead, I worked as a photojournalist during my stint in the military, learning the craft of photography from combat veterans whose skills were honed in the crucible of war.

This experience in the military stimulated my lifelong interest in photography.  Over the past 40 years, my photography has moved in a creative arc from the realistic photos of photojournalism to the impressionistic photos of fine art.  Today, I strive to create images that stand apart as visual metaphors, depicting the spirit of a person or place.

College Instructor.   After the army, I pursued a career in higher education.  For 25 years, I earned my living as a college instructor at five different colleges in the states of Washington, Nevada, and New Mexico.  This collegiate vocation enabled me to travel throughout the American Southwest and to gather an extensive collection of thousands of photos.

Digital Photography Workshops.  Today, I combine my passion for teaching and photography by facilitating a series of digital photography workshops at The Artistic Image, which is a fine art gallery and print shop located at 312 Adams Street in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque.  Workshop descriptions and schedules are available by clicking on the Workshop tab.

Sales.  My photos are available in standard frame sizes up to 36" x 54."  They are meticulously printed, matted, and framed to the highest archival standards.  I also offer my photos on canvas, a unique process which enhances the beauty and impact of the images.  Canvas-wrapped photos are available in sizes up to 48" x 72."

Equipment.   I shoot with a Canon 50D SLR digital camera, using two Canon "L" Series lenses:  the 24-105 mm zoom and the
100-400 mm zoom.  After shooting, I edit my photos in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop CS5 as a creative way to enhance and optimize my images.  I print my photos with the Epson Stylus R1800, a professional color printer, using the highest quality inks and paper.  For larger format images, I work with Bob Laetare at The Artistic Image, who uses state-of-the-art technology and printers.

Author.  I have written three books:  The Beggar King, which is a spiritual allegory (2001), Photographing Albuquerque, which is a travel and photo guidebook (2007), and Mindful Spirit, which chronicles a journey to spiritual wholeness (2009).

Photo Assignments.  As a freelance photographer, I am available for outdoor and portrait assignments.  If you ever have a need for a travel, nature, or portrait photographer, give me a call.  References are available upon request.

Best regards and enjoy your visit,
